British Graduate design wins major international award in Dubai

The studio, called Batyr Ospanov Designs, won the award for the category of Best Interior Design Studio and is based in Almaty City, Kazakhstan.  The company was established in 2013 by graduate Batyr Ospanov and is now rapidly developing into one of Kazakhstan’s most luxurious design studios.

The Luxury Lifestyle Award is an international award granted to companies in the luxury industry for their initiatives and outstanding achievements.  Companies and brands of ‘luxury class’ participate in the contest in different categories.

After graduating from the University in 2009, Batyr grasped every opportunity open to him and several short-term internships later, he was offered full-time employment at Andrew Winch Designs, followed by Tony Castro Yacht Design Ltd, where he worked on superyacht design, private jets and interior design for the next three years.

During this time, he gained valuable experience of working in the luxury design industry and it was this that inspired him to open his own business back in his homeland and he is glad he took the risk.

“When I decided to work for myself and establish my own company, I was criticised by some experts for having little experience in the field and a lack of financial stability,” said Batyr.

“But it is such a great feeling when you see your clients with happy faces, using bespoke products and interior spaces, which are a result of combining creativity with the client’s wishes,” he added.

Batyr Ospanov Designs now designs the interiors for several luxurious jewellery and perfume brands and designer luxury retail shops in Kazakhstan and Central Europe.  He also specialises in bespoke product design by collaborating with European and local artisans, craftsmen and manufacturers.

“If we cannot find a perfect selection of furniture or a decoration item that suits our client, we make a bespoke one, which meets with all requirements,” he said.

Batyr is still very passionate about yacht design and the company is currently in discussion with a large-scale yacht production company about collaborating together on a project.  It is hoped that this will turn into a successful inception of yacht design projects.
