To start off the basketball season, the Wolfpack will be hosting its own special, multi-team event, sponsored by Chad Price and Mako Medical.
Despite the whispers, the dates are slightly different from the original rumors. It has just been announced that the Mako Medical Wolfpack Invitational at Reynolds Coliseum will take place on Nov 25 and Nov 27.
NC State will be playing host to the likes of Eastern Kentucky, North Florida, and Charleston Southern as part of the sporting bonanza. Jon Rothstein originally reported the teams back in late October, and they have not changed. Currently, it is unclear which teams the Wolfpack will be playing as part of the event. However, experts believe that the event will be a bracket-style tournament, as opposed to a round-robin event.
“I’m excited to team up with Mako Medical Laboratories and welcome these programs to start their seasons at NC State. All three teams are well-coached, veteran squads, and I’m thrilled to have them in Raleigh,” says NC State head coach Kevin Keatts.
The two-day-long event is sponsored by Mako Medical, an innovative company that uses robotics, automation, and artificial intelligence to pioneer improvements in the health care sector. The partnership presented company CEO Chad Price with the opportunity to start off the season and share some important health care knowledge with the fanbase.

Needless to say, the buildup to the big event is certain to be thrilling. The tournament is already being touted as one of the most exciting in the upcoming weeks. With the addition of Eastern Kentucky to the bill, there’s sure to be even more interest in the sporting event.
The team’s former assistant coach, A. W. Hamilton, will be making his grand return to Raleigh. Hamilton formerly spent a year with the Wolfpack and supported the team as the lead recruiter, acquiring big-name stars such as Manny Bates. What’s more, as assistant, he coached under Kevin Keatts at Hargrave Military Academy, giving him extra clout.
The anticipation of Hamilton’s return is not without reason. The 2020 OVC Coach of the Year is now coming off of a 16-17 season, after seeing the team finish with a massive 12-6 record in the conference. The Kentucky Colonels will be headed up by Jomaru Brown, who had 149 turnovers in the season and also paced the offense with 18.4 points.
North Florida has also joined the schedule for the Mako Medical Wolfpack Invitational. While the team may not be the biggest name in the league, the Ospreys had a decent last season. The team went 21-12 with a 13-3 in the ASUN conference last year. Additionally, the UNF finished 31st in the country in adjusted offensive efficiency, according to KenPom. All of these indicators may point to the North Florida team steadily climbing to a prime position.
Finally, Charleston Southern went 14-18 last season with 7-11 in the Big South. Despite these stats, the Buccaneers failed to win early non-conference games against the likes of Eastern Kentucky, Missouri, and NC Central, who went on to become MEAC champions.
