A new study into workplace behaviour has found that a staggering nine in ten workers credit high quality coffee for making them more engaged at work.
Helping employees feel valued is key to boosting workplace engagement, and providing good quality office perks can help do just that.
In fact, the research shows that 75 per cent of workers across the UK and Ireland feel high quality coffee in the office shows their wellbeing matters to their employer, and almost three quarters of employees would recommend their office as a good place to work because of access to high quality coffee.
A quality break
Taking a moment in the day for a coffee break can also improve collaboration within and between teams, helping employees work smarter. Of those surveyed, 81 per cent said that coffee breaks help them to build stronger relationships with their colleagues, and 72 per cent with their managers.
The benefits of coffee breaks extend further, even helping to reduce stress. More than four in five employees in companies with over 20 employees report that coffee breaks help to relieve stress, with this number highest among the financial and creative industries. This is no mean feat given that 61 per cent of employees reported feeling stressed in the past week.
Perceptions matter
The survey revealed another interesting finding – that a business’ coffee offering has the potential to shape its external image. More than three quarters of employees across sectors think good quality coffee in the office is important for clients and visitors as well as staff, with over a third of employees in senior management positions assessing the quality of a company by its coffee.
Francisco Nogueira, Managing Director for Nespresso in the UK and Ireland said: “With 88% of employees in the UK and Ireland saying soft perks are crucial in retaining good staff, we know those little extras can make a significant impact on the way employees feel and act at work. The reason soft perks matter is simple: because our employees matter. It is the responsibility of employers to ensure these modest demands are met.”
Jean-Baptiste Coutant, B2B Commercial Manager for Nespresso in the UK said: “The evidence is clear: the value of high quality coffee in the office is as strong as ever, though employees clearly feel that access to it is still low. Fortunately, our range of Nespresso machines, tailored for the business environment, make the job of providing your employees with a simple solution to their coffee needs an easy one.”
