Prince’s Trust & RBS A-Z of Young Businesses: ‘U’ – UK Recycling Assistance: Claire Bourne

Claire, age 34, was a single mum struggling to support her young children; lucky to have just £1 spare each week.

She had an idea for a business, but with no experience of being self employed, she turned to The Prince’s Trust.

Claire was pleased to be granted financial support for her idea, UK Recycling Assistance. The business has now been running for seven years, collecting unwanted clothes for recycling from homes throughout the North East, North West, Yorkshire and the Midlands.

As well as asking householders to donate their clothes to support charity, they can also receive cash back on the clothes that they donate.

Claire is looking forward to steering new start ups through a network of UK Recycling Assistance franchises. She says that she has had to change her business model to fit with the ever changing economy but has managed to remain profitable when other businesses haven’t been able to adapt.

Claire says that the support she received from The Prince’s Trust was invaluable, and helped her when no one else would.
