What do you currently do?
I’m Managing Director of Hotelcare Ltd, the UK’s leading hotel support services company, supplying housekeeping teams, cleaners and porters to the hotel industry. I oversee all business operations and financial decisions, with a particular emphasis on client relations and new business.
What is your inspiration in business?
To create a stable and profitable business; mostly, one which values it’s employees, where people can be successful and develop their careers.
Who do you admire?
Anyone that becomes successful in a chosen industry, someone who has the guts and vision to start, develop and grow a business.
Looking back, are there things you would have done differently?
I think there are always things one would do differently looking back and not just in business. What is important is to learn from any mistakes, change/react and most importantly, don’t forget why these mistakes happened.
What defines your way of doing business?
Within Hotelcare, the most important are my team and so the core focus is ensuring they are happy in their role. In addition, I have learnt to adapt quickly to changes, listen to people with experience and be aware and knowledgeable of your competitors and your core industry.
What advice would you give to someone just starting out?
Be organised, have a coherent business plan and focus on what you are doing. Try not to be swayed from the path you have chosen but do respond to market or technology changes.
Don’t throw money at problems, ask for advice from people you think may be able to help, then make the important decisions yourself. Even if they are not always right you can learn from them and come back stronger. Simple!
