More BHS bidders revealed following deadline for offers

BHS went into administration last month, and the company had reportedly attracted the interest of five suitors hoping to buy the whole of the high street retailer ahead of last week’s bid deadline reports CityAM

Hilco, reported by ITV to have submitted an offer, is known for buying music and DVD retailer HMV out of administration in 2013.

Mike Ashley’s Sports Direct, Swedish furniture giant Ikea, discount retailer B&M and Edinburgh Woollen Mills have been reported as interested in some or all of the retailer, as have Matalan founder John Hargreaves, and Select Retail owner Cafer Mahiroglu.

BHS’ most recent boss Dominic Chappell is also said to be interested in bidding too. Chappell bought BHS for £1 from Sir Philip Green in 2015.

MPs confirmed earlier today that forming racing driver Chappell is to be hauled in front of the two MP committees investigating the retailer’s demise.

The business, innovation and skills committee and the work and pensions select committee are probing the handling of the sale of BHS from Green to Chappell and its £571m pensions deficit

Chappell is to appear in front of the MPs on 8 June, alongside BHS management and the board of Retail Acquisitions, the vehicle through which BHS was bought.

Hilco Capital has been contacted for comment.
