Twitter launches Moments to help users follow breaking news

Launching on Twitter’s apps for iOS, Android and desktop in the US only for the time being, Moments will be housed in a new lightning bolt tab — available within the apps and from Twitter.com.
Clicking on the lightning bolt serves up a list of different stories from the day, which gets updated regularly. Users can also browse topics, such as sports or entertainment to glance back a day or two and read more specific news stories.
In a blog post about the announcement, Twitter’s product manager of Moments, Madhu Muthukumar, wrote, “We know finding these only-on-Twitter moments can be a challenge, especially if you haven’t followed certain accounts. But it doesn’t have to be.”

Clicking on an individal Moment will display an introduction to that story, which can then be swiped through for additional images, videos, GIFs, links, Vines and tweets. A progress bar at the bottom shows how much information is available on each story and Moments can also be shared with followers.
