BT has “standout quarter” with pre-tax profits up 24%

Revenue rose 3 per cent to £4.59bn, which it said was its best result for more than seven years.
Chief executive Gavin Patterson said it had “captured” 71 per cent of the UK’s new broadband customers
Ofcom is soon expected to report on BT’s ownership of Openreach – the unit which connects homes to the internet.

Critics of BT say it has not invested enough in Openreach, and want it to become a separate business.
The results also come after BT’s acquisition of EE, bringing together the UK’s largest fixed-line business and the largest mobile telecoms business.

The company has announced a new structure for BT following the deal, with six separate divisions.
