£100M inward investment boost with Liverpool set to host Britain’s biggest ever trade festival

The International Festival for Business will be a global showcase of great British industry, which will be the UK’s greatest trade promotion since the Festival of Britain 1951, bringing the world of business to Liverpool in June and July 2014.

The event comprising hundreds of world-class events is a key part of the government’s ambition to promote economic growth, rebalance the economy and double UK exports by 2020.

Mayor of Liverpool Joe Anderson commented: “We are immensely proud that Liverpool will host the International Festival for Business 2014. The Festival will highlight the important role of major cities and city regions in driving economic growth, which is vital for Britain’s recovery. As host city of the International Festival for Business in 2014, Liverpool will consolidate its position as a world-class hub for business.”

Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg said: “The International Festival for Business will showcase the huge opportunities to be found in Britain to boost exports, growth and prosperity.

“We have a huge number of budding businesses – of all sizes – in Britain. The Festival is a chance to show the world that we are open for business and will create new opportunities for our high quality home brands.

“The Festival is an exciting part of the Liverpool City region deal and is a great example of what our cities can achieve if they are empowered to drive economic growth.”

Trade and Investment Minister Lord Green said: “Next summer the International Festival for Business will provide a global platform to promote the best of British and the outstanding opportunities to invest in this country. Coming two years after the Olympics, it will help ensure the message that Britain is open for business continues to be heard across the globe.

“Getting more companies to export and attracting high-quality investment to the UK are key planks of the government’s Plan for Growth. UKTI is proud to support the Festival and we will be working hard to help make it a success.”

Max Steinberg, Chief Executive of Liverpool Vision, commented: “We are thrilled to be unveiling plans for the International Festival for Business 2014, which will be Britain’s biggest global showcase since the London 2012 Games. With a stellar lineup of speakers and supporters, the Festival will show the world that Liverpool is Britain at its best.”
