The 2012 Smarta 100 competition launched

The competition, backed by telecoms giant O2 is billed as a celebration of the most exciting and disruptive small businesses in the UK and provides the overall winner with a £10,000 cash prize.

The awards are designed to highlight the best 100 businesses which are growing, innovating and disrupting their respective industries seeking out the high-street heroes, the market traders on a mission, the eBay entrepreneurs, the innovators, the recession-busters, the web wonders, the teenpreneurs, mumpreneurs and olderpreneurs.

TV Dragon and Smarta investor Deborah Meaden said: ‘Last year we handed out awards to 100 ambitious individuals who’d dared to act on their ideas and had grown brilliantly creative, innovative and sometimes disruptive businesses – the search is now on for the next 100.”

The top nominees picked by the judging panel which includes Theo Paphitis and Mike Soutar, who as CEO of Shortlist Media was last seen grilling the last four in the final of The Apprentice, while then ask the public to vote for the overall business of the year, who will take home a £10,000 cheque to help them take their business to the next level.
