Willie Walsh elected President of the London Chamber of Commerce

Walsh, 48, has been the CEO of British Airways since October 2005 following his time at the helm of Irish airliner Aer Lingus.

Commenting, Willie Walsh said: “Today London stands as the world’s leading centre to do business but tough economic conditions and increasingly fierce competition from abroad is now placing that position under threat.  In my two year period as President of the LCCI, I want to see London move further ahead of rival world cities in order to attract and retain the very best people and companies. To do that we need to have the right infrastructure and skills, and ensure the government creates a much more pro-business regulatory environment.”

Willie Walsh succeeds Stephen Greene as President, the Executive Chairman of property investment firm Rankvale.  Subhash Thakrar, Senior Partner at accountants Blackstone Franks has now been elected Chairman and Mark Adams OBE, Managing Director of public affairs specialist Foresight Consulting becomes Deputy Chairman.
