The British government are drawing up a “battle plan” to help prevent the spread of coronavirus across the country.
This week a cross Whitehall “war room” of scientists and medical experts will be meeting at COBRA the governments emergency committee to work out tactics to tackle coronavirus.
The current action plan is based on the flu pandemic outbreak, however later this week the government will publish their “updated action plan.”
The prime minister will chair the Cobra meeting on Monday, and said, “Coronavirus may very well be a challenge in the weeks and months ahead.
“But I have no doubt that with the help of the NHS and its incomparable staff this country will get through it and beat it.”
People aged over 60 are being advised to avoid crowded areas and public transport to prevent infection.
Health secretary Matt Hancock is considering “all options” as the outbreak is a “very, very significant challenge.”
Speaking on Sky’s Sophie Ridge programme on Sunday, Hancock said, “We are planning in case this gets much worse.”
He added, “It’s a balancing act, where I place the greatest weight on keeping people safe.
“But there’s no point in doing things that aren’t clinically effective. We have to be guided by the science.”
