Virgin Holidays has appointed two-time Grammy winner and global reggae icon, Shaggy, as Chief Caribbean Officer to proudly represent his home area and ensure tourists enjoy the best of the region
But with so many attractions, beaches and resorts to explore, Shaggy
The lucky Brit recruited to help the Virgin Holidays’ Chief Caribbean Officer needs to prove they can fulfil the strict job specifications. The successful applicant must be prepared to:
- Explore as many of Antigua’s 365 beaches as possible – sandy toes are guaranteed in this job
- Discover the beauty of the rainforest. Zip-lines are available to help cover ground quickly – this job isn’t for the faint-hearted
- Indulge in Antigua’s best restaurants and bars, sampling as many delicious local dishes you can, whilst sipping some of the island’s many refreshing rum cocktails. Ideally the chosen applicant will have a sweet tooth to enjoy the region’s tasty black pineapples that can’t be found anywhere else in the world
- Accept that this dream gig needs to be showcased to friends and family – the number of beauty spots, perfect for holiday snaps, cannot be underestimated
- Take responsibility for ensuring everyone is having the best time on the islands – you must have a ‘can do’ attitude. We don’t want anyone claiming ‘It Wasn’t Me’
Music icon and Virgin Holidays’ Chief Caribbean Officer, Shaggy, commented: “I love travelling around the world to perform, but my journey began in the Caribbean and I still call it home. As Chief Caribbean Officer for Virgin Holidays, I am committed to spreading the word about all of the incredible things that the region has to offer.
“Having just returned from an amazing trip to Antigua, there’s still a lot of ‘work’ to do, so an energetic recruit needs to fill my shoes while I’m on tour for my new album. That means experiencing as many bars, restaurants and activities as possible. It’s a tough gig – but someone has to do it!”
Joe Thompson, Managing Director at Virgin Holidays, said: “Whether you’re looking for a lively getaway or a laid back break, the Caribbean has you covered. We’ve been sending Brits to the Caribbean for over 20 years, and with the help of Shaggy as our Chief Caribbean Officer and his soon-to-be-recruited second in command, we’ll inspire more people to discover this idyllic corner of the world, kicking off with Antigua.
“Virgin Holidays is committed to supporting the Caribbean region and that’s why we’re so excited to be partnering with Shaggy, a star from the region, to show everyone why it’s a must visit destination.”
Paula Whitehead, European managing director at Elite Island Resorts, said: “We were delighted to welcome Shaggy to experience everything we have to offer at St James’s Club & Villas, Verandah Resort & Spa, Pineapple Beach Club, Galley Bay Resort & Spa and particularly, offer him a sneak peek of our new luxury all suite location Hammock Cove Resort & Spa opening December.
