Fun, safe ways to hang out with friends and family

computer games work

This current pandemic is hard on everyone. You can’t just pop by your friends’ and families’ houses to hang out, because everyone tries to stay at home to prevent the virus from spreading any further.

That can make you feel super lonely. That’s why it’s important to think of ways to hang out with your loved ones, without putting yourself ánd them in danger. In this article, we give you a few tips to have a fun afternoon with friends and family, while staying safe.

Digital games

By now, everyone knows you can use ZOOM, Google Hangouts, Facetime or even the video-chat of Facebook Messenger or WhatsApp to connect with friends and family. A normal call can be really lovely, but for many it still feels a bit forced. That’s why digital games can help. You can for instance download the app Houseparty and videochat while trying to beat your family in a rough game of Trivia. And did you know there’s also tons of games that can be played online? Trying to escape a room in an escape game is super fun in real life – but also a laugh online. Get your family together and battle it out – who will escape first?

A walk in fresh air

Sometimes you just want to see someone for real, to make sure they’re okay. That’s why taking a walk together, for instance in a park, is lovely. You can see each other face-to-face, but because it’s outside, the chance of the virus spreading is way less. Pick a place where you can walk about 1,5m from each other, such as a forest or a park with wide paths. Being outside in the fresh air is good for you, and seeing your loved ones will probably also boost your morale. Just remember not to get too close to each other!

Travel in a safe manner

If you for instance want to take a walk with your best friend that lives quite far away from you, it’s understandable if you don’t feel comfortable using public transportation. If you don’t own a car, this is a bit of an issue. Luckily for you, you can easily rent a car for this! There are many car rental companies where you during a normal year can rent a car to go skiing (Dutch: auto huren wintersport) or where you can rent a van for the whole family (Dutch: 9 persoons bus huren). Many of these companies now also have good deals for people wanting to rent a car for (half) a day, like Diks, for example. Diks has many rental locations around Amsterdam, Amstelveen and Almere (Dutch: auto huren Almere). Go check it out; you can rent a car at a fair price – and you don’t even need a credit card! Before you know it, you can press the car horn to let your friend know you’ve arrived!

Stay safe!
